Is thy heart right with God?

We thank God for another opportunity to go into His words. God is asking the question – Is our Heart right with God? He is asking everyone of us this morning. Is your heart right with God? If your heart is not right with God, it is better to make haste and get it right because one cannot be in disagreement with God and expect anything from Him either here on earth or over there in heaven. Anyone who wants anything from God who is the giver of everything should be in tune with Him. Thus God reveals His love to us by sending His Son Jesus Christ and promised that anyone who will believe in him will not perish but have everlasting life. When the angels announced the birth of Jesus Christ, they told the world that this Jesus would save the people from their sins and He is going to be the prince of peace, the Almighty Father. Anybody that believe this message of God, those whose hearts are right with God, became blessed but those who refuse, that is those whose hearts are not right with God remain in their sins, and sorrows, therefore there is no hope of them enjoying eternity with Christ Jesus. I pray that as many as are not in tune with Jesus may endeavor to be in tune with him.

When Jesus came and started his ministry, He started with prayer and was lead into the temple to read the word of God.

14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
Luke 4:14-22

God came in form of man to set our feet on the way to eternal life so that at the end we may enjoy eternal life with Him. One would expect the people to recognise Him as God addressing them, but what was their remark – Is this not Joseph’s son? Their hearts were not prepared for God’s blessings. They thought they knew the laws and were Abraham’s sons, instead of been in agreement with the plans of God to deliver them by sending his only begotten son, they went against his will, they failed to believe him as the son of God. Thank God that as many as believed in him he gave power to become sons of God. During his ministry on earth as many as believed on him received blessings, as it happens today that as many as believed in him are blessed and as many as have other purposes for attending church they do not receive any blessing from God. May God count us worthy of receiving His blessings? Jesus wanted to help them from their folly

23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.
24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.
27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.
28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.
30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way, Luke 4:23-30

He told them the truth. He knew they would not receive him. He told them that anyone whose heart is ready to receive and receives him would be blessed. He said further that there were many widows in Israel, many lepers during the time of Naaman and so many other people that received blessings however they were not the only people on earth that time but what happened was that they got God’s blessings because their hearts were yearning for God’s blessings and those who refused continued in their problems, as a result they were not blessed. Here Jesus was speaking to this people and also unto us too. May God make us heed to the warning of Jesus Christ so that his blessings may be ours.

What God wants from us is to prepare our hearts for his blessings. When we come to the house of God, to appear in his presence we must be eager to receive something from God. He will not force His blessings upon us. He speaks to us through sermons, songs, sometimes through prayers and every avenue available to us in the church. If we open our hearts, he is willing to bless us abundantly. Once we have received God’s blessing we must endeavour to keep them. We must take the first step of confessing our sins to Jesus Christ and tell him that we are sorry. If we try to deceive him when we are not truly sorry, we will not be blessed. If we are truly sorry for our sins, he will forgive us of our sins, save us and continue to have fellowship with us. As long as we remain his child, his blessings will continuously be poured on us. This was what God intended for those of the past generations and unto us. However the word of God declares that not the beginning that matters, rather what happens between the start and the end. How we ran between the start and the end will determine our eternity. If we run faithfully all our life with Jesus, been in tune with him always our end will be crowned with sweetness with Christ forever. This was the state of the Corinthian Church. They accepted the Gospel and were saved and follow the doctrines. Eventually they took their eyes of Jesus Christ and this was noted in 1 Corinthians 3:1-11. Later they became sinners and lost the Grace of God in their lives and what did they do in their churches? – started confusion within the church, they were in disagreement with God because they were not in agreement with one another. When one is in agreement with God, one will be in agreement with one’s brother, and in tune with one’s sister. However this church was in trouble to the extent that one will prefer one minster to the other. As Apollo was preaching, those in favour of Apollo would rejoice that they have their minster preaching to them, but when other ministers preached, they hated their words and would not like to listen because they were no more in agreement with God. At the end of a sermon preached by the minister they were not in favoured off, they would not pray. Hence they started looking for faults in the sermons or if he had prayed well, they rather would not have attended the service. They became carnal in their undertakings. Paul saw this and noticed that these people were heading for hell therefore he wrote to them – Who am I, who is Paul or Apollos? Are we not ministers of God? Why did they become so bad to such an extent that they failed to acknowledge these ministers of God as God’s minsters sent to them to preach the word of God to them? Would they be expecting Jesus Christ to come down and preach to them?

Paul talked to them and made them understand the foundation of God is one laid by Jesus Christ. No other foundation can any man lay and any other foundation is doomed. That message is for us today. Is our heart right with God? What are we doing in the house of God, have you come to pray and seek God’s blessing or to cause confusion, and be stumbling block to people? Or are you here to judge the people whether people measure to the standard of the word of God or are we here to measure ourselves using the scale of the word of God? When we start to judge people or look for faults in people, then our hearts are no more right with God. Are you in the position; is your heart right with God? If my heart is right with God, I will pray down the power of God and this place will be filled with the Holy Spirit and we shall all be blessed. If there is confusion, envying, backbiting, we are no more in agreement with God and what should we do? We should go back and do the first work all over. Jesus I have fallen, come and raise me up and he had promised that anyone that come to him, he will in no wise cast out. You can try and run away from people on earth, but you cannot run away from God. At the last day, when you appear at the judgment seat of Christ, you will not be able to hide from God. You may avoid coming to the church, to hear any sermon, but in the presence of God you cannot hide because your sins will appear before you.

God is asking you – Is your heart right with God? There is an opportunity to ask God the question. God want you to make it right with Him to day.
